Alley parties to highlight growing East Village district in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The expansion east of Interstate 30 continues to grow in Little Rock. Now known as the East Village, the area is bringing the community together to spark imagination of what else is possible and it all starts in an alley.

The Downtown Little Rock Partnership is kicking off a series of Alley Parties in East Village. They're hoping to bring food, music, and good times to an area they say is full of potential.

Moses Tucker Real Estate has been working to expand the area and is playing a key role in getting new businesses into the existing available buildings. Jamie Moses said East Village is an industrial neighborhood that his firm sees as the next extension of downtown. While it's already home to places like breweries and distilleries, it will also soon be home to a new school, engineering building, restaurant space, and apartments.

“There’s still plenty of property and all sorts of warehouses and old industrial space,” said Moses.

That means plenty of opportunities for growth and expansion.

That's why area businesses and the Downtown Little Rock Partnership are hosting the new alley parties. The parties will hopefully bring people together to experience the unique, industrial vibe in this part of town. They hope people can come and experience all the sights and sounds that are different in this area than other parts of the city. They’re also hoping people will get creative and imagine what could be possible there.

Phil Brandon, founder of Rock Town Distillery, said when he started his company in East Village 7 years ago, there was nothing there but empty warehouses. He said he saw the opportunity there because the buildings were great spaces and close to downtown. He's proud to grow his business in East Village and hopes to see new people give it a chance.

“We just want people to be aware we’re here,” said Brandon. “We’re just a hop, skip, and a jump from the river market so come on and check it all out."

The first party will be held on Thursday, April 27 at 1212 6th Street. Additional parties will be held May 18 and June 15. The events are free and open to the public.
